What to Expect During Your Appointment

If you are concerned about your memory or thinking skills, it may be time for a visit with us. Our highly specialized team provides comprehensive care for neurodegenerative conditions for adults and older adults. A complete physical with an internist or primary care physician is recommended prior to evaluation, including necessary lab work to evaluate for metabolic, infectious, and hormonal causes of cognitive change. Likewise, the patient may be referred for a neuroimaging exam, such as an MRI of the brain, to assist with differential diagnosis. Results from prior sleep studies will be reviewed as well as consults from neurology, cardiology and pulmonology and other pertinent specialists.

Clinical Interview

Dr. Lauren will meet with the patient and family to conduct a detailed review of reported problems with memory, thinking, mood and everyday living skills. Prior medical, academic, and social history as well as a listing of current medications will be reviewed. The presence of an informed relative or friend is strongly encouraged for a thorough understanding of the problem and to ensure critical details are not omitted.

Neuropsychological Evaluation

An evaluation is conducted to assess one’s strengths and weaknesses related to central processing, attention, concentration, memory, language skills, spatial motor and problem-solving abilities. As necessary, an additional assessment of ADD and/or neurobehavioral assessment may be completed to assess mood and behavioral changes associated with various memory disorders. The entire evaluation typically lasts 4 hours and is scheduled over the course of two days.

Feedback Session

After your comprehensive assessment, you'll receive a customized treatment plan that addresses your specific needs. We'll work closely with you and your family to coordinate your care with the appropriate specialists.
